How To Deal With Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety is groundless and unjustified feeling of fear. Sometimes a sense of fear can turn into a panic attack, accompanied by shortness of breath, racing heart, sweating, hot flushes or cold. Anxiety leads to an unnatural state of constant stress. A person believes that is threatened by imminent disaster, which causes abnormal fears. The emergence of anxiety or panic attacks often can not be predicted nor controlled by common sense, but people still can realize that their fears are associated with certain situations (driving a car, elevator), people (doctor, professor), etc.

The development of anxiety is activated under difficult circumstances, which include: a strong emotional stress, constant tension or anxiety through a long period of time, the biochemical imbalance in the body - particularly the hormonal disorder, negative environment... Anxiety disorders are more common in women, but this is not excluding other population. Women are often victims of fear, because of more frequent hormonal fluctuations. They should, first of all, check the possibility of hormonal imbalance. However, imbalance of amino and fatty acids can also cause unfounded fears and panic attacks - anxiety.

St. John's Wort 

This is a very useful plant whose sedative effect is based on a substance called hypericin. It is used in cases of mild forms of depressions, and also against a number of other diseases. It encourages the work of the endocrine glands, eliminates nervousness and arrhythmia. 

Preparation: Pour a scoop of finely chopped St. John's wort with 2 dl of boiling water and leave to stand covered for 15 minutes. Strain and drink before bedtime, or if necessary several times a day.

Note: St. John's Wort should not be consumed in large doses and concentrations, as well as in combination with antidepressants because it reduces their effect.


Lavender, the plant of sweet fragrance, has a great medicinal value. This plant originates from the Greek islands and it is being used in the treatment of internal and external bodily ailments well over a thousand years. Thanks to the beneficial soothing properties, it has an effect on the psyche and conditions such as insomnia, depressions and anxiety.

Preparation: Add one teaspoon of dried lavender in 2-3 dl of boiling water and let it stand for fifteen minutes. Then strain the tea. Drink three cups of tea a day.

Licorice root 

This plant has a great medicinal value and is very useful for many ailments. It contains a compound similar to cortisol, which helps the body to cope with anxiety and stress. Furthermore, normalizes the function of the adrenal gland, calms the mind and promotes rational thinking. 

Preparation: Grind a piece of licorice root and put it in a pan with boiling water. Boil half a minute and let it stand. After twenty minutes, strain the tea and add a teaspoon of honey or agave syrup. Drink the tea three times a day.

Hop cones 

This plant is known as a very good natural sedative and is therefore used in the treatment of diseases of the nervous system - for the treatment of depression, anxiety treatment, establishment of mental balance and strengthening the nerves. Hop cones contain high percentage of hormones, like estrogen, and is recommended for women in menopause and for the relief of premenstrual syndrome,

Preparation: Pour over two tablespoons of hops 2.5 dl of boiling water and let it stand covered for 10 minutes. Strain and drink in sips for half an hour before bedtime. If desired, sweeten with linden honey.
